چکیده

The manuscripts included in this special issue of Cancer Biotherapy & Radiopharmaceuticals highlight current data and theoretical foundations regarding dose–response relationships related to radionuclide therapy kidney toxicity. With the use of the kidney dosimetry model presented in MIRD 19,1 these experimental and clinical data, when correlated with accurate regional dose information, may provide the improvements in predictive models necessary for clinical trial design. Some fundamental findings from the current proceedings may be summarized:

Changing Therapeutic Paradigms: Predicting mCRC Lesion Response to Selective Internal Radionuclide Therapy (SIRT) based on Critical Absorbed Dose Thresholds: A Case Study

A 65 year old male with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) in the liver was referred for selective internal radionuclide therapy (SIRT) following a history of extensive systemic chemotherapy. 90Y PET imaging was performed immediately after treatment and used to confirm lesion targeting and measure individual lesion absorbed doses. Lesion dosimetry was highly predictive of eventual response in ...

The comparison of serial SPECT-CT imaging to estimate absorbed dose to the organ at risk from peptide receptor radionuclide therapy dosimetry

Introduction: In Peptide Receptor Radionuclide Therapy (PRRT), the administration of radionuclide such as Lu-177 label with a pharmaceutical agent useful to destroy the lesion. The amount of Lu-177 radioactivity administered to the patients is still not standardize and generally not more than 7.4 GBq per session due to the patient’s safety issues. The first cycle of Lu-177 is a...

MIRD pamphlet No. 20: the effect of model assumptions on kidney dosimetry and response--implications for radionuclide therapy.

UNLABELLED Renal toxicity associated with small-molecule radionuclide therapy has been shown to be dose-limiting for many clinical studies. Strategies for maximizing dose to the target tissues while sparing normal critical organs based on absorbed dose and biologic response parameters are commonly used in external-beam therapy. However, radiopharmaceuticals passing though the kidneys result in ...

A Microdosimetry model of kidney for nephrotoxicity due to internal radiation therapy

Introduction: We describe a nephron-based dosimetry model for renal toxicity for radiopharmaceutical therapy suited to the nonuniform activity distribution of radiopharmaceutical. In radiopharmaceutical therapy, renal toxicity is observed while whole-kidney and renal cortex absorbed dose values are below toxicity thresholds established by external beam and targeted radiope ptid...

Depth dose calculation of Holmium-166 for different shape source by VARSKIN3 code

Introduction: Using beta emitter radionuclide is a useful therapeutic modality in the treatment of skin cancers in areas which are difficult to cure by other methods. The aim of this research is to evaluate the tissue response to beta rays of 166Ho and determine the feasibility of beta emitting radionuclide for treatment of skin cancers. Methods: In this...
